The Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio) is a not-for-profit, 501(c)6 trade association supporting the growth of Arizona's life science sector.
AZBio Member Organizations in the fields of business, research and education, health care delivery, economic development, government, and other professions involved in the biosciences are the key drivers of the growth of Arizona's life science sector. As the unified voice of our industry in Arizona, AZBio strives to make Arizona a place where bioscience organizations can grow and succeed. AZBio works nationally and globally with the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), the Medical Device Manufacturers Association (MDMA), the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), and leading patient advocacy organizations.
Internship Description:
This is a 12-month internship
Hours: 20 hours per week - schedule is flexible to accomodate class schedules.
Location: 101 N. 1st Avenue, 20th Floor, Suite 2090, Phoenix, Arizona 85003
Internship Stipend: $1,500 per month paid on the 15th and end of each month.
The intern is an employee of the AZBio based in Phoenix, Arizona.
Prior to employment, applicants must provide documentation to support both the I-9 process and E-VERIFY.
The intern will report directly to Joan Koerber-Walker and also interface with the team at Dorn Policy Group, AZBio Members, and elected leaders.
Duties:
The intern will split time between marketing/communications—maintaining a simple editorial calendar, drafting/publishing social media posts, and producing brief policy spotlights and event coordination including supporting committee meetings and advocacy events.
Learning Opportunities:
The intern will have the opportunity to sit in on strategy sessions, committee meetings, legislative hearings, and to attend advocacy events.
Requirements
The AZBio Advocacy Intern will:
Communicate:
- Maintain an editorial calendar aligned to AZBio's Public Policy Guide and Current Events. Draft, route for approval, and publish ~5 posts/week (LinkedIn primary; X, BlueSky, Instagram and others as needed).
- Produce 2 policy spotlights per month ( copy + image collateral).
- Draft monthly committee agendas, flyers, and minutes
- Maintain an outreach and communications tracker.
- Track and report basic analytics weekly (post count, reach/engagement if available).
Engage:
- Schedule meetings with AZBio partners and elected leaders
- Assist with event coordination
- Keep documentation organized in approved folders with clear version control.
- Maintain and update the CRM/spreadsheet (contacts, organizations, interactions, engagement stage).
- Follow internal processes and controls for organizational records and documents in Google workspace.
Job Requirements:
- Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student (communications, public policy, business, or related). Awareness of the life sciences and/or workforce needs is a plus.
- Excellent writing, editing, and organization habits; high attention to detail.
- Comfortable with LinkedIn and basic content tools (e.g., Canva or similar).
- Proficient with Google Workspace or Microsoft 365; strong spreadsheet skills.
- Professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.
- Arizona Resident - Current Student at an Arizona University or a post-doctorate scholar
